Taboo

A handy silence

I thought yesterday about how the family secrets and social taboos are born.
Perhaps, we stop talking openly about something because it becomes uncomfortable for us, and then this becomes a secret over time. As time flows, the matter loses its visibility and it ceases to be part of anybody knowledge, disappearing from our consciousness to enter the sphere of an unthinkable subject.
It seems to me there is a process behind this. A question arises… the deliberate abandonment of speech and public expression of a given subject is it not a sign of immaturity?
Does the absence of dialogue, the conspiracy of silence, our silence, express our immaturity? Can only what is mature make something suitable for disclosure?
Maturity distances itself from the process which created it – like wisdom does it with the foolishness – although, paradoxically, maturity looks at youth with awe and admiration. Maybe because old age comes from youth, sertenly it comes from there.
The reflection of yesterday on taboos brings me to the thought that taboos do not represent any negative or positive aspect in our lives. I believe it is only one of instruments in the process of becoming mature. A instrument that loses its usefulness when we attain wisdom. When you’re ready taboo stops be taboo.
And one last question from yesterday: what will happen to the unthinkable?
